UCO Bank IMPS Issue: About Rs 820 crore of the bank was stuck in the attack on UCO Bank’s IMPS service between 10 and 13 November. However, after much effort, the bank was able to recover only Rs 649 crore of this. The bank has not yet given any information on the remaining Rs 149 crore. Public sector UCO Bank had informed the law enforcement agencies about this problem. The bank did not consider it a cyber attack and called it a technical problem. According to sources, now the needle of suspicion in the ongoing CBI investigation in this case has stuck on two cities of Rajasthan, Jaipur and Jodhpur.
Irregularities between IDFC First and UCO Bank
Investigation has revealed that many bank customers of Jaipur and Jodhpur had faced this problem on several occasions since the beginning of this month. The biggest problem was in doing IMPS from the savings account of IDFC First Bank to UCO Bank. In this, money was not debited from IDFC First Bank account. But, the account of UCO Bank was credited. This error occurred for the first time on November 10. Gradually this problem increased and Rs 820 crore of the bank got stuck. Then the bank stopped transactions from these accounts and started taking action to recover the money.
CBI is engaged in investigation
According to a senior official of UCO Bank, the management has taken this matter seriously. We are continuously monitoring the investigation. Some things have come to light in the initial investigation. But it cannot be said with certainty whether it was a human error or a technical problem. CBI is doing its work.
Government banks should improve digital operation system – Finance Ministry
Keeping in mind the incident that happened in UCO Bank, the Finance Ministry has asked public sector banks to review their digital operation systems. According to sources, the Finance Ministry has advised banks to check their cyber security and strengthen it. Banks have been asked to keep strict vigil and be prepared for cyber threats.
