Cost of the scheme Rs 2 lakh crore annually
The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, with an annual budget of Rs 2 lakh crore, is expiring on 31 December 2023. Earlier, the scheme was started in a new form from January 1, 2023, under which the new Integrated Food Security Scheme was rolled out from January 1, 2023 to provide free grains to Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Primary Household beneficiaries. Later the government said that this scheme has also been named Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY). Under this scheme, free grains are to be given till 31 December 2023. But in view of the Lok Sabha elections, the Modi government has decided to extend the scheme for five years.
Scheme launched during Corona
