Al Roker says he ‘wouldn’t be alive’ without wife Deborah Roberts

Al Roker doesn’t think he would be alive today if it wasn’t for the care and love of his wife, Deborah Roberts.

Late last year, after being absent from the “Today” show for several days, the weatherman revealed that he had been hospitalized for blood clots in his legs and lungs.

The TV personality exclusively told Page Six at the Hudson River Friends 7th Annual Playground Committee Luncheon that, right now, he is “overwhelmed by the love and prayers and, of course, the enthusiasm of my wife, Deborah. I can’t live without her.” I will not stay

Roker, 68, also admitted he did not know how close he had come to death.

“I think I know it now,” he confessed. “I didn’t know it at the time. Deborah was great at taking all that away from me so I thought I was doing okay but it was great because I was able to focus on getting better.

After his initial hospitalization on November 18, Roker was taken back to the hospital the day after Thanksgiving.

An eyewitness told us at the time that he was taken away by ambulance after his frantic wife attempted to get into their Tesla, who had driven off her car to retrieve her cell phone and follow her husband to a Manhattan hospital. Refused to open the door.

Locked out, Roberts tried to break the front-facing reinforced glass window of the car with the help of a neighbor outside his Upper East Side home. Unsuccessful, Roberts took a taxi to meet her husband.

“Al was taken back to the hospital on a stretcher from his home on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. His condition was critical, but after coming back to the hospital, his condition improved,” the eyewitness told us.

He returned to work the first week of January, where he elaborated that he had lost “half”. [his] blood” during his “life-threatening” medical crisis.

“I lost half my blood. They were trying to find out where it was,” he recalled of his hospitalization and internal bleeding, joking that he “went in for an operation”. [and] Got four free.

After discovering that he had two bleeding ulcers, Roker’s medical team resected his colon, removed his gallbladder, and reattached the duodenum to his small intestine.

Although Roker still has to undergo one more surgery, it is not related to his health scare.

“I’ve got a bum I’ve got to replace,” he shared. “But it was before everything happened, I was already planning it, so other than that I feel great.”

Roker revealed his hospitalization in a November 2022 Instagram post, and although he returned home in time for Thanksgiving, he was taken back to the hospital a few days later.

She married ABC journalist, Roberts in 1995. Together they share daughter Leila and son Nicholas. Roker also has a daughter, Courtney, from a previous marriage.
