India tour of Australia: Former Australia wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist believes that this time the Australian team can repeat the history of 2004 on the tour of India. Australia last won a Test series in India in 2004. Australia got this success after 1969. Now since 2004 till now i.e. in the last 19 years, the Australian team has not been able to win the Test series in India.
Gilchrist said in a conversation with Fox Sports on Tuesday, ‘I think they (Australia) will be able to do it (win the series). I think they have got a team which has similarities with the 2004 team. He said, ‘Australia have to choose their best four bowlers, if three of these fast bowlers can get really good reverse swing, then we also have the best off-spinner like Nathan Lyon, who can play an important role. I think he (Pat Cummins) should do the same.
Gilchrist’s most important advice
Gilchrist also gave an important advice to Pat Cummins here. He said that experimenting with new spinners in subcontinent conditions has never been beneficial and Cummins should refrain from doing so. He said, ‘Most of the teams go to India with the hope that they will bring out a new spinner who will be able to adjust and surprise everyone in India, but it does not happen.’
He also gave these Guru Mantras
Giving mantras of victory to the Australian team, Gilchrist said, ‘Target the stumps directly from the first ball itself. Be defensive to be aggressive. Start with a slip. Line up the fielder to take the catch at midwicket. Eliminate the option of hitting boundaries by placing the fielder at the boundary. Keep the fielder at short cover or short midwicket for the catching position and just be patient.
