2000 Rupees Notes: When RBI announced the withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes from circulation on May 19, 2023, the process of bringing back Rs 2000 notes has continued. Now the Reserve Bank of India has released a big data related to this. RBI had issued the last press release regarding the circulation of Rs 2000 and its return on 02 September 2024 and now a new update has been issued in it.
RBI keeps giving updates from time to time
After this, from time to time RBI informed about the notes of Rs 2000, how many notes have been returned to it and how many notes are left. On June 03, RBI had told that till that time Rs 2000 notes worth Rs 7755 crore were with the people, that is, these notes had not returned to RBI.
The total number of Rs 2000 notes till 19 May 2023 was 3.56 lakh crore.
Now according to the latest data, RBI has informed that 98 percent of Rs 2000 notes have been returned. Along with this, RBI said that now only total notes worth Rs 7117 crore are left with the people. The total number of Rs 2000 notes was Rs 3.56 lakh crore and this figure was till 19 May 2023. In this, RBI has said that if people have Rs 2000 notes left, then they have the opportunity to return them to the Reserve Bank through RBI authorized centers and other means. There is no need to come to the issue office of RBI.
Rs 2000 notes will remain legal tender
However, RBI reiterates from time to time that Rs 2000 notes will remain legal tender and this means that these notes have only been taken out of circulation. Their legal validity has been established and it is not that these notes will no longer be legal tender after demonetization like Rs 500 and Rs 1000, like the then Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes were discontinued on 8 November 2016.
People also have the option of returning RBI notes through India Post and Rs 2000 notes are still being accepted from individuals or entities.
